Water Supply Project
After more than 50 years' practical design and experience, the institute has successively undertaken design for ma ny cross-basin water supply projects, comprehensive water supply projects in large cities including water intake, water transmission, water storage, and water distribution. It has won rich experiences in the technology for pretreatment of micro-polluted water and sand-containing water, in the water treatment technology such as all types of reaction, sedimentation and filtration, and in the optimization design for long distance water transfer and large-sized water distribution network. All of these have taken lead in the country and attain the international advanced level.
Water diversion work from Luanhe River to Tianjian completed in 1980 is a large project of long distance water transmission. Our institute assumed overall design for the project. It has annual water output of 1000 million m 3 with the maximum day water output 3 million m 3 /d, and has distance of conveyance 234 km. Both the capacity and difficulty are unusual in the country. The project, after coming into operation, won the State quality prize, and the State medal prize for excellent design. The projects our institute designed are: water supply project of water diversion from Luanhe River to Tangshan has water output of 0.18 million m 3/ d, water intake 0.36 million m 3 , distance of water transmission 18 km; the water supply project in Baotou Iron and Steel Co. by taking water of high turbidity from Yellow River has water output of 1 million m 3 /d; the second phase water diversion project from Biliuhe River to Dalian has water output of 0.20 million m 3 /d and distance of water transmission 83 km. Shijiazhuang city water supply project has water output of 0.30 million m 3 /d and distance of water transmission 21 km. Guangdong Dayawan water supply project has water output of 0.20 million m 3 /d. Expansion project of Haikou Mipu water plant has water output of 0.24 million m 3 /d. The water source system from well field of Taiyuan north suburban area has water output of 0.20 million m 3 /d. Handan city water diversion project has water output of 0.15 million m 3/ d, taking ground water from the Ordovician limestone with depth of 200 m, the distance of water transmission is 40km. Handan city water supply project of water diversion from Yuecheng Reservoir to Handan has water output of 0.20 million m 3 /d with distance of water transmission 56 km. Water diversion project from Yellow River to Huhehhot has water output of 0.40 million m 3 /d. For the water supply project of Wenzhou Shanqi key water control project, water intake and transmission is 1.10 million m 3 /d, and the new-built water plant has water output of 0.30 million m 3 /d. Baoding city surface water treatment plant has water output of 0.26 million m 3 /d. The water supply project from Harbin Mopanshan Reservoir has water output of 0.90 million m 3 /d and distance of water transmission 175 km. All of these projects have some influence at home and abroad. The institute also keeps ahead in development and application of water treatment process design technology in the country.
Wastewater Treatment Project
Our institute has undertaken the engineering design for 300 more wastewater treatment projects in large and medium-sized cities, with 170 more projects coming into operation. More than 90% of them utilized the foreign government grant and the loan from World Bank, Asian Development Bank and Oversea Economic Cooperation Foundation. Introduction of foreign fund is accompanied by the importation of advance process and technology from developed countries. By way of international technical exchange, the institute has got rapid development both in theory and practice in the field of wastewater treatment. With the more attention and input from the government to the environmental protection, our achievements in the design of wastewater treatment are getting more remarkable. The institute has been among the international advanced ranks both in theoretic and technical level, and has taken lead in this industry. In the wastewater treatment process, the institute is the first one to have in hand the following processes: A/A/O biological nitrogen and phosphorus removal process, AB-process for treatment of high strength wastewater, conventional activated sludge process, Carrousel oxidation ditch process, Orbal oxidation ditch process, triple-channel oxidation process, SBR process, UNITANK process, chemically-enhanced primary treatment process, chemical pretreatment ¨C biological activated carbon process. All of these processes have been put into practical use. In sewage sludge treatment, the institute has developed egg-shaped digestion tank, and the technology of power generation using biogas, blower driven by biogas, and biogas mixing. All of them have taken lead in the country.
The wastewater treatment projects, which have been completed and put into operation are: Tianjin City Jizhuangzi wastewater treatment plant (using conventional activated sludge process, treatment capacity 0.26 million m 3 /d. The plant now has been expanded with A/O process adopted and treatment capacity of 0.54 million m 3 /d); Qingdao Haibohe wastewater treatment plant (using AB-process with treatment capacity of 80,000 m 3 /d); Hangzhou Sibao wastewater treatment plant (with A/O process adopted and treatment capacity of 0.40 million m 3 /d for secondary treatment and 0.60 million m 3 /d for primary treatment); first and second phase project of Xiaoying Wastewater treatment plant (oxidation ditch process and treatment capacity of 0.30 million m 3 /d; Huangyan wastewater treatment plant (Carrousel oxidation ditch process and treatment capacity of 80,000 m 3 /d); Langfang wastewater treatment plant (Orbal oxidation ditch process and treatment capacity 80,000 m 3 /d); Zhaozhuang wastewater treatment plant (triple-channel oxidation ditch and treatment capacity 60,000 m 3 /d); Yanzhou wastewater treatment plant (CAST process, treatment capacity 0.10 million m 3 /d); Taixing wastewater treatment plant (chemical pretreatment ¨C biological activated carbon process, treatment capacity 30,000 m 3 /d) (chemical wastewater). Shanghai Zhuyuan wastewater treatment plant with the largest capacity in the country is under designing (using biological ¨C chemical process, treatment capacity 1.70 million m 3 /d); Shijiazhuang Qiaodong wastewater treatment plant (A/O process, treatment capacity 0.50 million m 3 /d); Nangjing Jiangxinzhou wastewater treatment plant (A/O process, treatment capacity 0.64 million m 3 /d); Qingdao Yuandao wastewater treatment plant (A/A/O process for nitrogen and phosphorus removal, treatment capacity 0.10 million m 3 /d) and so on.
Reclaimed Water Reuse Project
In the situation of limited fresh water resources and large quantity and long construction period in cross-basin water diversion works, to achieve wastewater reclamation for reuse is an effective measure for solving water shortage. The reclaimed water is superior to the surface water resource, it has reliable water source with high guaranteed rate and it is not affected by the climate.
Tianjin City Jizhuangzi wastewater reclamation and reuse project, which is under construction, is ranked among 5 key demonstration projects of wastewater reuse in the country. The project is the first one to have the reclaimed water reused for domestic miscellaneous use in residential area, to apply the micro-filtration membrane technology, and to implement the water supply based on different quality by using two different processes at same time in a plant for different uses. Execution of the project has remarkable significance for the nation's wastewater reclamation and reuse.
The projects our institute has undertaken are: wastewater reclamation and reuse project in Tianjin Development Area, wastewater reclamation and reuse project in Yantai city wastewater treatment plant, wastewater reclamation and reuse project in Tai'an city wastewater treatment plant, wastewater reclamation and reuse project in Hefei City Xiao ? wastewater treatment plant, and wastewater reclamation and reuse project in Qingdao City Haibohe wastewater treatment plant, etc.
Tianjin City Jizhuangzi wastewater reclamation and reuse project consists of reclaimed water plant and water transmission & distribution network with capacity of 50,000 m 3 /d, among which 20,000 m 3 /d is reused in residential area with CMF membrane + ozonation + disinfection process adopted; 30,000 m 3 /d is reused in industrial area with the conventional coagulation/sedimentation + filtration + disinfection process adopted. Water transmission & distribution network is 53 km long.
